Note:
These are the standard kata requirements for promotion examinations only. Instructors may choose to teach additional Okinawa Kenpo Kata or Kobudo to students per their discretion and student interest, however, these will not be required for promotion until reaching the proper above indicated rank. Instructors may also levy other requirements such as kumite, board breaking, kihon, etc., at their discretion as part of determining a student’s promotion worthiness. Katas from previous ranks may also be examined to ensure that students maintain diligence in practice.
We hope this information provides helpful guidance and clarifies expectations.

Response
First of all, I’ve never trained in any style of martial arts, so initially, it was very intimidating for me. But since I’ve been training, I love it!
Furthermore, Okinawa Kenpo is conditioning my mental and physical endurance; connecting me to its traditions and lineage, and building my confidence in self-defense.
Response
The primary benefit I gained is, I’m learning karate something I’ve never done. And the style of karate strengthens my muscles and improves my flexibility, without causing further injury to my joints and back.
Response
I’ve been training at the fitness center for over 2 years and this is the most fulfilling training I’ve ever taken.
Response
My short-term goal is to learn all the kata’s correctly, and the long-term goal is to perform each kata I learn with power and proficiency.
OSU!
Warmest regards,
Linda
IMHO, the most effective and proven martial arts to learn are a striking martial art (I recommend Karate first, with alternates Muay Thai and Boxing) and a grappling martial art (Judo first, and alternates, Wrestling and BJJ)
If you are going to pick a Karate school, Kenpo Karate’s long history and lineage of great masters and senseis from Okinawa can’t be beat. Our school is not a McDojo — we do not give out numerous rainbows of belts to make greedy profits. Following the precepts and guidance from Master Kina and Master Kiyan, Sensei Berry will train you each step of the way as you achieve growth, confidence, skills, and mastery of the Karate martial art. Each belt that you achieve is duly recognized with a certificate from Okinawa and the Okinawan Kenpo Karate Association, an internationally recognized, original Okinawan-based Karate association, not a local belt creation from a local black belt.
Sensei Berry is a highly trained, well-respected, and successful karate practicioner, training for over 35 years. He is a sixth-degree black belt in Okinawa Kenpo Kenyukai Karate and is the highest ranking under Master Kina and Toru Kiyan in the East Coast of the United States. The depth of his Karate knowledge is deep and invigorating to immerse yourself and to learn from, while his sharp, tactical eyes provide detailed correction so that you can carefully learn the proper stance, strike, grip, or technique for the most accurate instruction.
With Sensei Berry, not only will you learn all of the great strikes, blocks, kicks, throws, and techniques of “empty hand” Karate, you will also learn an exciting variety of beautiful but deadly weapons, to include, the traditional Bo (long staff), the Sai (elegant thrusting and striking metal weapon), the small Tekko (wooden hand molded weapon) the Tunfa (wooden blocking and striking weapon), and my favorite, the fast and powerful Nunchaku (twirling wooden striking weapon linked by chain or cord).
Aside from the wonderful Karate techniques that you will learn from our Okinwan Kenpo Karate dojo, you will also learn invaluable life and character lessons from Sensei Berry. It will take about 6 months to a year, but inevitably, while becoming good at Karate, you will learn to appreciate even more, the wonderful personal characteristics and life lessons that Sensei Berry will teach you. He is so very dedicated to teaching and spreading the good word about Karate, but also the personal precepts and spiritual values espoused by Karate — to be dedicated to the art, to be a good person that treats others with dignity and respect, and to be humble and kind. It is a personal privilege and gift to learn from a true student of Karate and to follow the life lessons of a very good man.

Okinawa-kenpo is a karate style which has been developed based on ancient Okinawan martial arts called “Ti”. Its technique and thought were studied and refined by a Tomari-te master, Shinkichi Kuniyoshi (also known as “BUSHI” Kuniyoshi) and passed down to Grand Master Shigeru Nakamura, the founder of Okinawa-kenpo. Grand Master Nakamura opened his own dojo “Okinawa-kenpo Karate-do Shurenjo” at Agarie, Nago city and taught his art of karate.
